FROM BEIJING TO ROTTERDAM. ONE MONTH ON. . .

You would, I am sure, have forgiven Sarah Thomas if she wanted to take a well deserved holiday after her intense training and playing schedule at the highest standard for four years to achieve her Olympic dream. But within two weeks of returning from the Beijing, and after a celebratory return of all GB athletes in Wales, Thomas was boarding yet another plane, this time bound for Rotterdam.

This will be Sarah's fourth year with Rotterdam Hockey Club and after being named Player of the Season in 2007, Thomas can now add 'Club Captain' to her list of honours.

'I am genuinely quite tired after the Olympics and it is going to take some time to adjust to being back with club hockey but I am sure it won't take long with it being a new environment, different people and of course being Club Captain.'

And what about being captain of one of the biggest hockey clubs in the world

'It is of course an honour and being Club Captain gives me a different focus on the season ahead which I am very much looking forward to.'

With a busy few months ahead of her, Sarah has very little spare time to visit her home in Wales with only an invitation to meet the Queen at Buckingham palace tempting her back to the UK.

And one month on from returning from Beijing how does the hockey star from Merthyr feel about her Olympic experience

'Before the Olympics I didn't think I would be happy unless we retuned with a medal, whether that being Gold, Silver or Bronze. But on reflection I can now look back and be happy with the team finishing top six and with the fact that I gave all I could give when I was on the pitch. It has given us a good platform to build on for London 2012'
